The role:

Aiven is looking for an energetic and passionate accounting professional to strengthen the Accounting team, which consists of 10+ fantastic colleagues in Europe. The team is ambitious in developing processes and team competence to be best in class. 

We're seeking a motivated, proactive, and hands-on accounting professional with excellent teamwork and communication skills. The ideal candidate is a well-qualified accounting professional with a strong interest in accounting principles, financial control and process. We value a reliable team player, who enjoys working in a global, dynamic environment, wanting to seek improvements to processes, build strong relationships in and outside of finance and develop their career in a technology business.

This position is based out of Helsinki, at Aiven HQ.

What you'll do:

  • Contribute to the month-end close, including completing accounting activities, preparing and posting journal entries and calculating accounting concepts.
  • Working on the accounting and financial reporting for a Group of 15 entities around the globe at the statutory entity level - the largest entities being in Finland and Germany.
  • Ensure group accounting policies and principles are followed in all group entities.
  • Working on the individual audits and preparation of financial statements for the subsidiary entities. 
  • Assisting the accounting team with ad hoc tasks and projects.
  • Assisting with VAT returns and preparation of tax information.
  • Work on projects to improve and automate accounting processes and systems within the finance landscape to enhance efficiency and operational excellence.
  • Work with other internal teams, including accounting operations, tax & treasury, FP&A, legal, HR and IT. 
  • Work with and oversee some of our external advisors, including accounting and payroll partners in different jurisdictions, tax authorities, auditors and consultants.

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, and/or a recognized accounting qualification.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of accounting principles and standards (IFRS and preferably Finnish accounting rules and tax rules).
  • 5+ years experience in accounting activities.
  • Working knowledge of financial control and processes.
  • Experience in tech or scale-ups is an advantage. 
  • Understanding as to how to prepare and post journal entries and experience with a recognised ERP system (NetSuite experience is a plus).
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to build professional networks within finance and cross-functional teams. 
  • Professional working proficiency in English (written and verbal).
