|RSS FeedAt Aiven, we're constantly striving to provide our users with the most efficient, powerful, and cost-effective solutions for their data needs. That's why we're thrilled to announce the launch of significantly enhanced plans for Aiven for ClickHouse across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Today, we are launching new plan options within our startup and business tiers as well as the ability to fine-tune local storage independently. These updates deliver enhanced price performance and flexibility, optimizing your ClickHouse experience for all your use cases.
Unlocking greater value: More power, less cost
We understand that every ClickHouse deployment has unique requirements. That’s why our new plans offer more granular control and better value. For instance, depending on your chosen region and plan, you can now double your compute power for the same price. On the other hand, if reducing costs is your priority, it's now possible to lower your total cost by up to 30% for the same compute power, depending on how you use the service. These updates involve using more modern instance types, including ARM chipsets where available, which contribute to both performance and cost improvements.
Introducing Dynamic Disk Sizing (DDS): Pay only for what you need
One of the most exciting new features is the introduction of Dynamic Disk Sizing (DDS). This innovative capability allows you to independently scale your local storage. What does that mean for you? Simply put, you only pay for the resources you genuinely require. No more overprovisioning storage "just in case" – DDS ensures you're optimized for both performance and cost. Beyond cost-efficiency, these updated instance types bring inherent performance gains, offering the ability to double the compute power for the same cost. This empowers you to select precisely matched resources for your real-time analytics, observability, or business intelligence needs, so that your ClickHouse service is always perfectly tuned.
Simplified management, greater control
This relaunch of Aiven for ClickHouse plans is all about simplifying resource management and optimizing your costs. With a wider array of plan options now available within our startup and business tiers, coupled with the ability to fine-tune local storage independently, you can experience unprecedented control and predictability over your production-ready ClickHouse service.
Ready to experience the difference?
So, ready to give these new plans a spin? You can dive right in and try them out yourself. If you're already an Aiven for ClickHouse user, don't worry – migrating your existing services to these improved plans is straightforward. Just keep in mind that our older plans are stepping aside for new services and will be fully retired on August 29th, 2025.

FAQ
New & Existing customers
Q: How exactly does the Dynamic Disk Sizing (DDS) pricing work? Is it purely per GB? Are there different performance tiers for this storage?
A: DDS’ cost is included as part of your service's total cost and is shown in the service summary during service creation. It is a charge per GB / month. Additional information about DDS is available in the Aiven documentation.
Q: Are there any hidden costs associated with DDS, like I/O operations or snapshotting?
A: No. If you add storage when you create a service, the cost is included as part of your service's total cost and is shown in the service summary. The cost of adding storage to a running service is also shown in Aiven Console when you add it. The total price you see is the cost of the additional storage and any backups associated with it. You can also see these storage usage costs in your invoices.
Q: Is there a free trial available for these new plans?
A: You can register now as a new user. Get started for free here.
Existing customers
Q: Can Aiven help me determine the best new plan size based on my current usage?
A: Yes. Reach out to your account executive who will help determine what plan is the best fit for your business.
Q: What is the exact process to migrate my existing service to a new plan? Will there be downtime?
A: To migrate to another plan, you can follow the existing process of plan upgrade as described in the Aiven documentation. There will be no service disruption. During the upgrade, the service will be reconfigured on larger Virtual Machines (VMs) in the background. Once complete, DNS names will direct to the newly configured hosts, with possible slight propagation delays. All available maintenance updates will be applied during the service plan upgrade.
Q: Do I have to migrate, or can I keep my current plan indefinitely? What happens if I don't migrate before the August 29th 2025 deadline?
A: We recommend all our users to migrate to one of our new plans using the plan change feature of the Aiven platform. You can remain on your current plan until August 29th 2025. After this date, we will automatically migrate your service to the equivalent current plan in use. For example, if you are currently using a startup-16 plan, you will be migrated to the new startup-16 plan with double the compute and the same amount of EBS storage as local SSDs you were using - so no additional costs.
Q: Will my connection strings or service URI change after migrating?
A: No. After the plan change, DNS names will direct to the newly configured hosts, with possible slight propagation delays.
Q: Will I see a noticeable performance improvement after migrating, given the new instances?
A: Yes. ClickHouse uses CPUs intensively and as such, the new plans providing more CPUs overall positively impact your workloads.
Q: Does the new block storage perform differently than the previous SSDs, especially for query-intensive workloads?
A: At the same plan level (ex. A business-16 before and after the release of the new plans), we expect your ClickHouse workloads to perform better thanks to the additional CPUs provided. We have been benchmarking instances across cloud providers with different storage, chipset and CPU/RAM configurations and selected the best for Aiven users. The result of this research is available in this blog post.
Q: Are there any changes to other features like backups, replication setup, or maintenance windows with these new plans?
A: No, everything else remains the same and costs the same.
